Sal has held appointments in local city and county government leadership, serving as vice president and commissioner of the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission and helming the SFPUC’s real estate division during Mayor Frank Jordan’s administration. Additionally, Sal led the Small Business Commission of the City and County of San Francisco; appointed by Mayor Willie Brown, Sal served that body for four years, as president and vice president.
Sal holds a BA in Public Administration from San Jose State University, and a Master of Public Administration degree from California State University, Hayward. He is past president of the Marina Merchants Association and continues his active membership in many civic organizations, including the San Francisco Forum Club and the Commonwealth Club of California. Sal is a member of the California Association of Realtors and the San Francisco Association of Realtors. He resides with his wife in San Francisco, near their children and grandchildren.
Rhanda Salma specializes in the purchase and sale of single-family residences, condos, tenancies in common, and mixed-use properties in San Francisco. Ryan Salma specializes in residential and commercial leasing in San Francisco, as well as in the sale and purchase of single-family residences and condos. His years of experience in real estate sales, construction, development, and leasing gives him valuable insight that informs his work for all his clients.
Prior to joining Salma & Company, Ryan spent more than five years in new home sales, working for Pulte Homes and the Mark Company; during that time he sold more than 400 SFRs, including condos and townhomes. He also spent two years overseeing property management and leasing requirements for Triterra Realty Group. Ryan became skilled at listening to his buyers’ concerns, finding properties suited to their needs and goals, and structuring the best deal for all parties.
Ryan earned his undergraduate degree from the Haas School of Business at U.C. Berkeley. He is a graduate of St. Ignatius College Preparatory and Stuart Hall for Boys. He is a member of Marin Rowing Association and past president of San Francisco FrontRunners.
With more than 25 years of marketing and design experience, Maria is all about making things beautiful and pleasant to look at and be around. Maria is the visual communications lead for Salma & Company and has served in that role since 2008, when she created the firm's branding; she directs design of all company collateral, and feels like a member of the Salma family at this point.
Maria has a wandering spirit and has lived in Sweden, Germany, and Argentina. She received her degree at San Francisco State University and has also studied at the Academy of Art. Maria loves to dance and cook dishes from around the world, and can communicate in three languages!
Devi Zinzuvadia creates original editorial content and marketing communications for Salma & Company across all digital platforms, supporting the firm in connecting clients and partners with real estate updates and opportunities to engage in the market. Devi has 20 years’ experience in editorial consulting, journalism, and communications, and is also deeply skilled in nonprofit management.
A proud San Franciscan, she holds a BA from USC and a Master's in Journalism from Columbia University. Devi's relationship with the Salma family spans four decades, starting from their school days at Convent & Stuart Hall and St. Ignatius Prep.
We moved to Marin County in 2016 amidst a competitive and difficult housing market for buyers. We were looking to buy our first home in San Francisco. A close friend introduced us to Rhanda and Laila. From the get-go we received a wealth of information regarding San Francisco’s real estate market. From minor but crucial details like the ability to expand the living space in the future to major details like red flags in disclosure packets, Rhanda and Laila guided us through the emotional roller coaster of buying a new home. In the process we were introduced to details like advantages and disadvantages of each neighborhoods based on our priorities. They introduced us to several new neighborhoods to us. They even played devil’s advocate with us when we were impulsive about a property and never made us feel any pressure to move too quickly.

Outstanding! We couldn’t have done it without them. We can’t express enough how positive our experience has been working with Rhanda & Laila Salma of Salma & Company. The Salmas are San Francisco natives and have a comprehensive knowledge of the SF housing and rental market—its clear they love their city, and care deeply about their roles helping match buyers with homes. From day 1, they guided us through the somewhat daunting process of buying a home in San Francisco, providing years of knowledge/information while never making us feel any pressure to move too quickly. Rhanda and Laila were introduced to us by a friend who bought a house with their help. They have been not only our real estate agents but our sounding board as well throughout the process of finding our first home – and boy, it’s been a process.
The Salma sisters helped me and my family find the exact house we were looking for and that was no easy feat. We had a lot of boxes to check. Perhaps looking for a house at one of the peak periods (or so it felt at the time) in one of the top cities in the country (Berkeley) was not the smartest thing to do. But, we were having our first child and wanted to live closer to relatives. As Laila and Rhanda advised us, we needed to do our homework and be honest with what our priorities were in our new home given our budget. Once we determined the top items – house must be over 1000 sq ft, lot size bigger than 3000 sq ft, art studio, neighborhood feels safe and walkable, decent room sizes, big backyard – we started looking at homes that loosely fit this criteria. Admittedly, it was difficult and it took a lot of Sundays. We often went to more than 10 open houses at a time…even in the rain ! But, as Laila and Rhanda reminded us, to find the exact house that fit our needs we would need to look at all the inventory to see what we could get for our money. Taking the time to see what houses were available gave us perspective to see where the true value was. Once we found a house we really liked, with this knowledge and research, we were able to make an offer with confidence. However, aggressive markets are hard for the buyer and we were up against 30+ offers, a few, all cash. After four unsuccessful offers, we found a house that we felt the best about. Knowing this, Rhanda and Laila came up with their own aggressive strategy that proved successful and we got our house! It really felt amazing when the deal went through. We had all done a lot of work and for that we got the best results. I’m so thankful to have worked with the Salmas because it was their intuitive knowledge about real estate, the Bay Area, and people that helped us get the home we wanted.

Rhanda was out of town one visit, so we worked with her sister, Laila Salma, who was equally as wonderful. Rhanda would point out restaurants, gyms, shopping, everything she could about each neighborhood so that we felt like we knew each area well.
